we'll get to see president obama's first state of the union of his second term. what does he want to happen in the second term? how does he plan to get it done? we already had a bit of a preview last week once the fight over the bush tax cuts deal was finished, the president gave a speech in which he laid out five issues he said he was ready to move on with the new congress. the first is ending the war in afghanistan. we found out today how the president plans to move forward on that plan with a surprise announcement that u.s. troops are going to have a mission change, that they'll be taking on a supporting role starting this spring. surprise. as for immigration reform, well, back in november, it was during his first press conference after being reelected that president obama said he would push comprehensive immigration reform, including a pathway to legal status for people without legal records and citizenship for the so-called dream act kids, the dreamers, who are brought here illegally as kids, but who have grown up here and they want to be citizens. on gun violence, we'll find

, but the battle really is not lost. the american government, the obama administration's trying to do what it can to stabilize things, but it's lost a lot of influence with iraq with the departure of american forces, one thing the american forces did give the united states was more clout inside iraq. >> talk about the release of a man accused of killing american soldiers, this issue that you write about in your book, the end game, but also news that came out in november about the relief of ali musa; is that correct? >> guest: yeah. well, there's a number of events that i think worked against american interests in iraq, and the case you cite is one of them. he is not an iraqi. he's a lebanese-hezbollah operative who was sent into iraq at the best of the iranian's cud force because hezbollah is supported by iran for the purposes of training shiite militias fighting american troops. he was captured by leaders in a raid conducted by the brits in which there was an american presence held in detention by the united states, but then under the status of forces agreement, he was handed over to the iraqis.

have been failed by the obama administration, by the united states congress, by the united states courts, by the majority of the main stream media in the united states and by the american people. that sadly is the truth. when you look at what that means, what does it mean for the people in guantanamo to be -- the most important fact we all need to be aware of on this day, and as mo eluded to, over half of the prescribers in guantanamo have been cleared for release from that prison by a very sober and responsible group of government officials and lawyers, from all the government departments in the intelligence agency in a report issued three years ago. so these are decisions made maybe four years ago. as mo very well put it, these are not people needed to be held because they pose a security risk or because they have ongoing intelligence value to the united states, and yet they have not knot been released. the united states went through a very high level process of saying to these men we don't want to hold you anymore, and then didn't release them. now, in half of these cases these

of conflict over the past couple of years. these are the gun laws in the united states. they have complained consistently about this. it appears president obama will do this as an element of reform. events have told the administration toward having to do something about gun control. this will be difficult and an ugly battle. what should mexico do about it? i go back to my previous point. there is no real rule for in this debate. there may be in both the gun debate and in the immigration debate some minor rules for the mexican government in terms of cooperation. immigration, it does seem to me if we're ever going to get a handle on the question of temporary worker vises or different forms of immigration policies, some form of cooperation in establishing labor exchanges in mexico that could be run by the government would be useful. if we look at the major issues of reform in mexico, it does seem to me one of these could be of extreme interest to the united states, energy reform, i think success of u.s. government have done a good job and avoiding public comment on specifics of energy reform. t
